Join us for a Transgender Week of Awareness panel discussion featuring some of Aotearoa's most inspiring creatives at 6.30pm, Thursday 17 November on Zoom.

Author Andi C. Buchanan, illustrator Sam Orchard, and performance artist Moe Laga will discuss how transness influences their work, and read from their texts.

Meet our panellists:

  • Andi C. Buchanan (they/them), novelist, author of Sanctuary.

Andi C. Buchanan lives among streams and faultlines just north of Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington. Their novel Sanctuary is about found family and haunted houses. Winner of a Sir Julius Vogel Award, their genre-blending novella From a Shadow Grave explores a historical murder, the legends surrounding it, and what might have been. Andi’s short fiction has previously been published in Fireside, Cossmass Infinities, Apex, and more. When not writing they enjoy cheese, knitting, and winning disputes with the neighbour’s cat.

  • Sam Orchard (he/they), illustrator, author of Rooster Tails.

Sam is a queer and trans illustrator, comic creator and designer. He is the author of Rooster Tails, a weekly autobiographical webcomic exploring his life and transition. Sam describes themself as "a geeky, chubby transguy who spends too much time on the internet, messing about, and reading comics".

  • Moe Laga (she/they), performance artist.

Moe is a performance artist and queer advocate from South Auckland whose practice includes movement and activation. Her works include a number of stage and screen productions, as well as collaborative visual artworks that have been shown in Australia as well as the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China. Moe has a diploma from the Pacific institute of Performing Arts and more recently completed her Bachelors in Creative Arts from the Manukau Institute of Technology.
